ALFRESCO PACKAGING CONSIDERATIONS

At Alfresco we are determined to work as much as possible with the environment and this is reflected in our packaging.

We have completed a Life cycle analysis (LCA) intensive course.  LCA is a method used to evaluate the environmental impact of a product through its life cycle and encompasses extraction and processing of the raw materials, manufacturing, distribution, use, recycling, and final disposal.

Our products are all packaged with this in consideration.

It doesn’t mean we don’t use polystyrene.  In fact, because of polystyrenes ability to protect goods, it is still a widely used packaging medium.  Many councils have programs to collect used polystyrene so with retail/wholesale consumer support polystyrene should not end up in landfill.

We do work with several different suppliers and whilst we can try to obtain the packing that we would ideally want, we do need to take a few factors into consideration:

Availability of desired packaging for the supplier

    Cost

Ability of packaging to protect the product

With these variables we navigate the best outcome.  We also print guidelines on packaging disposal on our shipping cartons.

Our Indonesian products have the highest sustainable packaging as they are protected with coconut fibre that can be used in a myriad of ways in the garden or with plants (pots, hanging baskets, compost to name a few).  We hope that this is the start of receiving many more products that are not only packed in fully recyclable materials but are also useful.  Needless to say, we will continue to strive to improve our packaging for a better future for us all.
